Software Installation Checklist

Identify "Local Configuration Manager."

Establish Strong Dialogue between Local Config Manager and San Diego Roadway Systems Manager (Jeff Martin)

Software

File Setup

  • Install Roadway Environment Files
  • Set up "read only" content source (our M:/ drive content)
  • Set up "user writeable" location (our L:\USTN\MSv8_config_users)
    • set variables to point to the "user" folder
  • Enable help system (note: some links will fail)

Additional File Work

  • Evaluate kha_config*.cfg file for deviations from San Diego's
  • Evaluate all major clients' configuration needs.
  • Evaluate  "seed" MicroStation User Configuration File and modify if necessary.
  • Set up a couple of PCF files (as per one of ours).

Test System

  • Launch "Enable Config" batch file.
  • Launch "Create User Config" batch file.
  • Launch MicroStation/InRoads
    • verify User Config File is available
    • verify User Interface options
    • verify Project files are available

MicroStation quick checks:

  • Are the Level Libraries available? (see the Level Manager)
  • Are Text Styles Available?

Training Schedule and Scope

Establish Scope of Training Commitment

Formal training (instructor-led, with hands-on labs) takes a lot of prep work.  Informal discussions and "spontaneous" demos do not.  If Formal training is desired, the scope should be appropriate for the available time and machines should be available for the students (the students should also be available).

Topics

What are the Core Competencies required of users?  Should include:

  • Understanding How and Where to get Help
  • Understanding Our Software Environment
  • Understanding Client Conformance Techniques
  • Running MicroStation in the Roadway Environment
  • Printing and Format Translation
  • Running InRoads in the Roadway Environment

What are production-specific topics of interest to the audience?

How much is available for self-learning via the web or from Training Manuals?

What needs to be instructor-led?  What needs to be superguru-led (if you got somebody who understands a small part really well, there is no reason that person can't share his/her expertise)?
