Plotting

The Roadway Configuration (Superset) pen tables are at M:\CADD\CA\SD\Road\ustn\resources\plotting\roadway_superset.

1/14/08: I copied the L:\USTN\V-8\Workspace\projects\Caltrans\TABLES\PEN pen tables over to M:\CADD\CA\SD\Road\ustn\resources\plotting\roadway_superset and added the suffix _kha (in theory the Land Group shouldn't have a separate CalTrans pen table).

The changes to those files are

  • adding the new levels to the IN_Level selection list, and
  • rather than having an "All Else" block I simply added the output criteria to the Global defs prior to the change blocks (it should have the same effect).

Old data

We have a handful of Pen Tables set up for our current configuration.  Jeff hasn't paid much attention to it in a few months.  We'll need to get back on top of them....

Note:  Be very suspicious as to the printing cosmetics/standards resulting from Jeff's pen tables, etc.  He has been blessed with a career overseeing very little plotsheet quality (but lots of data quality).  Correspondingly he has no eye for client-acceptable plots:  he will not catch cosmetic errors, probably ever.  You will have to tell him.

The current setup is probably very ugly and will need revision.  Please let me know what looks bad.

The default and flawed pentable is CT_v7+Pen_fullclr.tbl (it is a "translation" a Caltrans I/Plot pen table).

The CT_v7+Penhalf_fullclr.tbl with half the pen thickness of CT_v7+Pen_fullclr.tbl (it is not a translation of any CalTrans half size pen table.  It will deviate.

Note: greyscale and black and white can be select from the Print dialog, changing the PenTable is no longer necessary (although the pen tables may do some additional resymbolization)

Issues:

CalTrans v8 Pen tables are I/Plot pen tables, not MicroStation Print/Plot (M/Plot) pen tables.

I have created from scratch MicroStation pen tables that mimic the CalTrans v8 Pen tables.  I/Plot functionality exceeds M/Plot functionality (to my knowledge).  There are things I cannot translate properly.  Maybe 80% will be fine.

Probable M/Plot Pen Table deficiencies to look out for:

Systemic Errors

Weight Base/Weight Delta I/Plot only? MultiWeight Linestyles plot too fat or too thin
LineStyles   M/Plot can't resymbolize "style = (1, .05, 1, " styles
"Dot Patterning" too dark   M/Plot can't resymbolize "zero length lines"
Half Size LineStyle scales   M/Plot can't specify "style = (1, .05, 1, " styles

Random Errors

  • I accidentally left out a translation
  • I incorrectly translated something
  • I mistyped
