I'm in InRoads v8.9. What the heck do I
do now?

When to use any version other than v8.9
Since we can use version v8.9 on any CADD file standard (v8, v7, AutoCAD)
there are only a few reasons to use any other version:
- When having to re-run a Roadway Definition in Roadway Modeler (all QC
(cross sections, contours, etc.) can be done in v8.9.
- When updating sheet content (cross sections surfaces, features, etc.)
Current Plan for Transportation Group
Everything in InRoads is customizable. The settings are stored in a
"Preference" or ".xin" file.
For 805 Managed Lanes we will be using InRoads v8.9. I am currently
updating an InRoads Preference file for Caltrans v7+ standards. Feature
Styles and Named Symbologies have been set up. The file
is available at
InR_89.xin. This file will always be in the process of being updated.
Copy
InR_89.xin to your working directory and use it.
Command Preferences
Command Preferences (e.g., Profiles) have not been extensively set up.
Feel free to clean things up and save the changes. Let me know and I can
incorporate your changes into the master file. Managing
changes to your xin file is described at Manage Changes in InRoads
Settings.
Metric
Some of the settings are set up for metric, some are not. Jeff will
probably not be making a lot of changes for Metric, but if your project is
metric, you can start with the
InR_89.xin and make the changes as you go.
Save any Metric Preferences as "*-Met<clent>".
Let me know
and I can share your work with other metricians (and steal the credit).
v8.5 and earlier
I highly recommend you help the group out by helping us move forward
with the v8.9 file rather than any more time using the v8.5 or earlier InRoads
Preference files.
I don't expect to be updating whatever InRoads v8.5 Preferences files
(civil*.ini) exist, though I can answer questions and help out. There are
some upgrade paths for v8.5 preferences to v8.9 preferences. I do have a
mostly non-CalTrans (metric) file available, but it may be better to go with the
Caltrans-Imp file on the L:/ drive.
