XIN Configuration Home

What everyone should be doing right now.

The scope of this sub-web is technique and process specific to participation in the management of San Diego's Roadway group configuration.  "Generic" Techniques and Concepts for the InRoads Preference files can be found here.

Note: no work should be done in versions prior to v8.9 other than adjusting and pushing templates.  All other InRoads work can be done better in v8.9.  In other words, don't waste time cleaning up preferences for dead versions.

Original KHA-SD Transportation Department Plan

• Start with a good base (only Named Symbologies in commands, etc).
• Named Symbologies will be based on providing Object Segregatability/Uniqueness (Axis (Profile & Cross Section), Existing & Proposed Contour (Major, Minor, Depression, etc.) rather than "Caltrans has 63 levels".  It is far easier to "combine down" that to "split up".
• Set up Command Preferences based on CalTrans Standards.  I started with my Civil XLR8.xin.  There's a lot of garbage command preferences that i need to pull out.  Right now if you see "ImpCT" (for Imperial CalTrans) it is new and consistent with our long term goals.  Everything else is probably bad (bad levels at least, possibly metric).
• Default Preference will be _ImpCT rather than "default".  Other preferences will contain "ImpCT" or "MetCT" for CalTrans standards.  Other standards to be client/keyword based.
• Enlist help of users when needing new standards.

Course Correction

I was going to keep to the CalTrans 63 Level "philosophy," but I found my speed and QC really diminished working with distantly related things on the same level, often with the same symbology.  Tossing all Cross Section and Profile info on "60 Non Geo" and "9 Profile Grid", for example.

Currently there is a very high level of segregability in the Named Symbologies.  Currently these detailed Symbologies point to different (and extra) levels.   My plan is to build a one-button macro that will take any .dgn and take the extra and resymbolize to exact CalTrans standards.  So please don't freak out if you see wild diversity in levels and colors. 

Details like Fonts and text sizes are important and need to be correct.
